Alpha Rho Celebrates 50 Years
Fifty years of Delta Gamma at
Ohio Wesleyan University is an af-
firmation of all the VOWS we took
when we were pledged and initiated.
Fifty years, with over 800 living
members and living memories are
what made the chapter special.
April 20 was the day for celebrat-
ing Alpha Rho's fiftieth anniversary.
It was a happening, indeed!
The most repeated phrase heard
throughout the corridors of the
Holiday Inn Friday evening and
throughout the rooms of the chapter

house Saturday was an astonished,
"It's you! It's really you! You're the
same! You haven't changed a bit!"
One member said she didn't immedi-

ately recognize her classmates of 40
years ago, but as soon as she read
their name tags, they looked just
the same as they did in college. What hasn't changed?
Faces, figures, and fashions have all been reinterpreted
through the years, but that spirit, that smile, that
warmth of memories shared was as near and dear to
the class of '70 as to the class of '24.
Among the highlights of the Saturday luncheon at-
tended by 200 returning Alpha Rhos were remarks by
Marguerite Williams, E-Ohio State, who as Province
Secretary had worked with the local Phi Omega Phi in
preparation for petitioning and chartering as Alpha Rho
chapter. Miss Williams introduced Merle Wilson Bliss,
class of 1914, who had been a member of Phi Omega
Phi, and proceeded to recognize the 11 fifty-year mem-
bers present. Cable Awards were presented to Eleanor
Greene Daugherty, Ruth Dunning Smith Gauthier,
Marilyn Jenkins Hoffman, Marjorie Smith Leach, Pa-
tricia Burtner Milla, and Dorothy George Oller in rec-
ognition of their loyalty and devotion to the Fraternity.
The Order of the Delta Gamma Rose was presented
by Mary Ann Lummis Bowyer, Vice-President: Col-
legians, to Phyllis Battelle Van Horn for her outstand-
ing contribution to community and the world through
her syndicated newspaper column and whose remarks
stirred both laughter and sentiment. And the flavor of
the collegians was continuously present, from the favors
on the luncheon tables, their hospitality at the chapter
house, and their enthusiasm while modeling clothing
of the decades.

gether, moments of awareness of others, and the clear-
ing of blurred thoughts which reveal those precious
moments stolen from a time to be relived over and
over in reminisences. Always the thought of affirmation
James Joyce left in Ulysses flies to mind: "Yes I said
yes I will Yes." It was a perfect day when we reaffirmed
those ties with the emotional touching of one another.
Fifty years of Delta Gamma ties meant much to each
decade.
