World War I Work

When the 1917 Convention was cancelled due to the outbreak of World War I, it was suggested that $1,000 of the unused convention funds be donated to relief work. The first gift was a donation to Des Petits Orphelins de la Guerre, an orphanage in Scheveningen, Holland. The project was greeted with wide enthusiasm, and soon after a larger fundraising campaign was held that eventually resulted in an additional $13,416.73. The next year, Delta Gamma acquired the Delta Gamma Home in Ossendrecht, Holland, a home for destitute and ailing children.
